As we are now into February 2025, and Moulin Yarns begins to come out of hibernation it seems time for a bit of an update.
I’m writing this blog a week after storm Eowyn hit most of Scotland, mainly in the south around the central belt. We didn’t escape totally unscathed with power going down for around 5 hours on the Friday night, but the damage was a lot worse around Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The studio will be getting a spruce up in March ready for opening in April. The first weekend in April we will be paying a visit to Edinburgh for the Woolly Good Gathering, not selling but to get a sense of what is in vogue for the year! This is the second year it has taken place, but it’s in a new venue at Central Hall, Tollcross. I’m looking forward to seeing all the friends that I already know as well as meeting new vendors. As a result the studio will be open from Thursday 10th April with the usual opening hours of 11:00 to 16:00 Thursday to Sunday from April to the end of September.

My own year of opening the studio is bookended with Yarn Shows, I’ve already mentioned The Woolly Good Gathering in April, then in October it is the Glasgow School of Yarn. If you get the chance both are well worth visiting to meet lots of talented yarn dyers and crafts people.
As usual I will be attending local craft fairs and markets in Pitlochry and Aberfeldy so check out the dates when they are available on the website. As well as the monthly markets there are events such as the Aberfeldy Show and Grandtully Gala Day which I always look forward to.

After a fairly busy 2024 it’s already looking like 2025 is going to be equally busy with a group of knitters all the way from New York booked in for a visit in April with a talk and demonstration on yarn production. Before that however we have just completed the first part of a commission dyeing for a local(ish) craft shop, the first part being sock sets in their colours. I’ll keep it a secret for now until they launch it later this month. This will be followed by a DK version of the same colours and I will be dyeing up more yarn for the shop soon as well.
On the knitting front I am currently knitting a temperature cowl, or scarf, that's still to be decided, and a Habitation Throw using and Yarn Advent from Yarn Unique. I also have a major finished project, I have completed the sweater that I also spun the fibre for. The fibre came from John Arbon Textiles in June 2023, was spun during 2024 and finally knitted in 2024. I love it!!

Until next time, happy knitting, crochet weaving or whatever your craft is!
Thanks,
David at Moulin Yarns
